Map & location info

This outing is for Charleston Bird Club members who could not join the October 14 Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center trip. We have eight reserved spots with Black River Cypress Preserve for a morning of birding at the Swampside Tract.

Led by Master Naturalist Judith Keane, we will walk the trail system looking for birds. After visiting the Native Plant Garden, we continue to the longleaf pine restoration area. This is the start of fall migration, so we may find some migrants. Freshwater swamps and upland forests await those who want to explore by foot.

This 3-hour walk covers about 2 miles of crushed granite or grassy trails. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and dress for the weather in comfortable layers. Binoculars and cameras are welcome.
