 The July Charleston Bird Club walk will be at James Island County Park on July 18th at 8 am to 11:30 am. Cost is $5.  We will meet in the parking lot — Richard Hayes will be leading the walk — Recommend binoculars if you have them, suntan lotion and bug spray.  A 3.4-mile paved loop popular for birding that circles the park's perimeter, offering views of the marsh and woods. James Island County Park is an eBird hotspot with over 200 bird species recorded. Its diverse habitats—including freshwater ponds, tidal salt marshes, and wooded areas—make it a premier location for spotting a wide range of Lowcountry avian life. Enjoy a morning of birding with Richard Hayes. Beginners are welcomed!

Join us for the Early Morning Bird Walk presented by Charleston Parks Conservancy and Holy City Birding. Charles Donnelly from Holy City Birding will guide you through the diverse bird species of Charleston while leisurely strolling through the park.Plan for .5-1 mile of light walking. This thriving ecosystem provides sanctuary and food for a great variety of birds. During the summer months two very colorful and intriguing birds are attracted to this special location. The Painted Bunting and Roseate Spoonbill Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a beginner, this event offers a relaxed and enjoyable experience to appreciate the beauty of local birdlife

Caw Caw is a prime location for birding in South Carolina, particularly at the Caw Caw Interpretive Center, which is a 654-acre wildlife sanctuary. Here, you can see over 270 species of birds, including raptors, shorebirds, and waterfowl. The center offers guided walks every Wednesday and Saturday, where naturalists lead tours to explore the diverse habitats, including marshes and forests.

The Nemours Wildlife Foundation welcomes the Charleston Bird Club! Join a Nemours staff member for a guided tour behind the property’s gates. Get a chance to view managed tidal impoundments, upland pine savannas, and other unique landscapes.Nemours Wildlife Foundation, located on Nemours Plantation near Yemassee, South Carolina, is a great place for birding, many opportunities to observe various bird species in diverse habitats. The foundation manages tidal impoundments and pine savannas, which attract a variety of birds, and also cultivates habitats for species like the rails and Red-cockaded Woodpecker.

Santee Coastal Reserve is a great birding spot, mostly because it has three main habitats—old growth longleaf pine forest, freshwater swamp, and fresh or brackish marshland. The pine forest along the entrance road has all of the specialty species of longleaf pine forests. Many birders have gotten their lifer Red-cockaded Woodpeckers and Bachman's Sparrows along this drive. Hiking into a freshwater swamp (with a good boardwalk) to a large heron rookery, then hiking out into the extensive marshlands to look for ducks, rails, shorebirds, and other wetlands species. Many rarities have been found at Santee Coastal, including Ruff, Black Rail, Yellow Rail, and American Avocet.

The birding on Bulls Island is fantastic, especially during winter and during migrations. A very long list of rarities has been seen on the island, including several first South Carolina records.We will take a charter with Coast Expeditons - Take a scenic 30-minute ferry ride through winding creeks to Bulls Island, a hidden gem in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Along the way, naturalists will point out dolphins, sea turtles, and some of the 293 bird species that call this place home.  A few of the rarities seen at Bull Island are Masked Booby, Magnificent Frigatebird, Common Eider, Western Kingbird, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, and Snow Bunting. Long-billed Curlews regularly winter in another part of Cape Romain NWR.
